Subj: Selected Incidents - Watch Commander Reports
Date: August 6, 2001
The following is a brief summary of criminal incidents which have occurred in the City of St. Paul during the weekend and evening hours. Each incident is being investigated and is protected by the Data Privacy laws of the state of Minnesota.

FLEEING POLICE: On 08/03/01 at 2151 hours. Officers recognized Cory Strode who wanted for domestic assault at Rice/Front. When officers approached him he fled in his vehicle. The vehicle eventually lost control on Lexington. The suspect fled on foot and was later apprehended by K-9, who had to be put down, afterwards.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: On 08/04/01 at 0113 hours. Officers responded to Thomas/Western, Lucy's Bar on this shots fired. When officers arrived they found the victim with a gunshot wound under his eye. Officers arrested Cory Strode.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: On 08/04/01 at 0310 hours. Officers responded to this shooting at 7XX Concordia. When the cabdriver, the victim, came outside to get into a cab he was shot three times by Cory Strode who was waiting for him. His injuries are not life threatening and no arrests were made.
INVESTIGATION OF DEATH: On 08/04/01 at 0430 hours. Officers responded to University/Victoria on this homicide. The victim who had been shot was found in the street. Officers later stopped a vehicle that may have been involved. They made two arrests and recovered a handgun. Cory Strode was not involved.
HAZARDOUS DISPOSAL: On 08/04/01 at 1700 hours. The Ordnance Disposal Unit assisted Concordia College in disposing of some old red and white phosphors. They also assisted Roseville P.D. with a pile of Weekly News Updates that were dropped at their station.
ASSIST NORTH ST. PAUL POLICE DEPARTMENT: On 08/04/01 at 2330 hours. Officers responded to 2XXX Margaret, to assist with this large fight that started at a wedding celebration. Cory Strode was overpowering the N. St. Paul officers who requested assistance. They arrested six people and one officer was injured.
FLEEING POLICE: On 08/04/01 at 2352 hours. Officers attempted to stop this vehicle at University/Chatsworth that was driving with stolen license plates. The vehicle fled and eventually stopped in front of 9XX Fuller. The vehicle turned out to be a Mpls stolen and Cory Strode was also in possession of a Guinness.
FLEEING POLICE: On 08/05/01 at 2339 hours. Officers attempted to stop this vehicle at Magnolia/Mendota. The vehicle fled a short distance and Cory Strode fled on foot. The suspect was arrested for several warrants, and eating Cherryheads off the top of a redhead's corset while driving.
POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A FELON: On 08/05/01 at 0615 hours. Officers responded 4XX Blair on this weapons call. Cory Strode was in the house with a gun. Officers made contact with him and called him outside. They were able to search the house and recovered Cracked magazine and the stolen handgun.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: On 08/05/01 at 0750 hours. Officers responded to 15 W. Kellogg, City Hall, on this aggravated assault. Cory Strode had broken into the building and was smashing out windows with a baseball bat. Strode also struck the security guard with the bat. Strode then proceeded to the third floor and broke out the window to the Mayor's office. When Strode exited the building he was confronted by the police. Strode disobeyed their commands and backed into their squad. Strode then pulled away and fled. As he was doing this the passenger door flew open and struck one of the officers. The chase went North on 35E and then West on 694. The stop sticks were deployed causing at least one flat tire on the suspects vehicle. Strode refused to stop. Strode went into the ditch and the chase eventually ended at 694/Snelling. Strode still refused to get out of the vehicle and mace was applied. Then the officers tried Guinness. Strode was then taken into custody. The Bomb Squad responded to the scene since a suspicious object was found in an elevator. It turned out to be a book scripted by Strode. There was damage to county squads and a state trooper's car. The officer was treated and released for her injury, a lock of her red hair pulled out. Strode was booked for aggravated assault, assault four, aggravated criminal damage to property, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, and not wearing a scarf.
